Kumutake Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Turpan Basin. Xia Gongjun erected the Kumutake series in 1956. The section for the designation is in Kumutake (Shadunzi) 10 km south of the Shanshan County, Xinjiang.
Synonym: Kumtax Fm
Lithology and Thickness
The Kumutake Formation is represented by tangerine and brown red massive fine sandstone, occasionally with red mudstone and blue gray granule conglomerate in the lower part. It is 123 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its base marked by blue gray granule conglomerate lies disconformably on the underlying Lianmuqin Fm.
Upper contact
Its top marked by tangerine and brown red massive granule conglomerate lies unconformably under the overlying Subashi Fm.
Regional extent
The present formation occurs in Huoyanshan of the Turpan basin and the Kumutake (Shadunzi) of Shanshan County, and eastward sporadically south of Wudaogou. It is monomorphic and persistent in lithology and ranges from 20 to 123 m in thickness.

Fossils
The formation bears ostracods Talicypridea meliora, T. gemma, Cypridea caveernosa, C. rostrata, Ziziphocypris simakovi, Candoniella mordvilkoi.

It is of fluvial-lacustrine deposition.
